Character Creation Guidelines

Ok, so you really don't want to write for a character that was in the film, but you still want to write. Here are just a few things to keep in mind when creating characters for this particular RPG.
Where to Begin
Ok, so you really don't know where to begin. Here's some random ideas you may be able to work with.
Even stormtroopers have feelings. Think Dr.Evil's henchmen in Austin Powers. They could have a whole life no one knew about.
A ship is only as good as it's crew. Ok, I'll grant you the vast majority died, but a few of them lived. Try to think of something specific they might have done or even go to the film and pick out one in particular an think what kind of personality they might have.
Family ties. Disney put a whole lot of work into the back stories of the characters. Audrey has a boxing sister, Rourke had a wife that left him, Vinny is the 'eldest child', so that means he must have at least a bother or a sister. Avoid making them just like the film character, though. I know very few siblings who are *exactly* alike.
The hunt is on. What ever happened to those Atlantean hunters after they bring the Whitmore team into Atlantis? There is a lot of potential for character development there.
Travel Atlantis. Check out the Atlantis travel guide, if you can. It has lots of great sites to see and many diverse businesses to patronize.
Expedition Team Specifics
First and foremost, try to think of the film and PLEASE try to blend into that theme. Usually, it works best to create a character from scratch rather than try to bring in a pre-existing one you created for something else. I say USUALLY, sometimes, it does work.
Members of the expedition team are strictly 'mortal' as it were. No mystical heritage, or magical powers (with the exception of Zoltan, but that's how he makes a living).
| If you have a
REALLY good reason for doing the above, post or email me about it and it
will be looked at on an individual basis. |
Also, true to the film, they should not be *too* friendly with Milo until later on.
Atlantean Specifics
Names should also follow the pattern set by the names given in the film and script, though if help with naming is needed, feel free to ask.
Physical appearance should mesh with what is seen in the film, in that crystals are blue, and hair is a rather un-diverse white. Dye streaks are ok if they are explained (made from powdered barnacles, etc...)
Note for Everyone
Everybody should have a unique purpose. This is not to say they must be pivotal to plot, but they should have some reason for being there, especially with expedition members (ask yourself if someone already has that job).

Ok, so you've
gone through all that and you think you have something you can work with, but
you're still a little shy about posting it directly to the board.
A good check to run it through is the Atlantis
Mary-Sue Test (just as a general self-check, not the end-all determining
factor), then post it on Expedition
Briefings or if you still want some pointers before doing so, you can send it to GoblinQueeen@aol.com
or Rebmakash@yahoo.com.
